Feeding trials, University
of Gueiph:
Feeding
trials with AERC's grain sorghum hybrids were conducted at Univesity of Guelph with
broiler chicken, dairy cows and pigs. The nutrient profile of Ontario developed
grain sorghum hybrids higher values than corn.
Sorghum grains contained 12% crude protein. The typical crude protein content in corn
is 8 to 9%. Lysine content in sorghum was similar to corn. Tryptophan content was twice
as much as in sorghum as compared to corn.
Broiler chickens fed with grain sorghum-soybean diet had similar growth and feed efficiency
to that of the conventional corn-soybean diets.
The heat pocessed grain sorghum and its blend with high moisture corn have similar
feeding value to that of high-moisture corn for mid-lactating dairy cows in dry matter
intake, milk production and milk composition. In trials with pigs the fecal digestibility energy of AERC's
grain sorghum was significantly higher than normal corn. Broiler chicken fed with AERC's
grain sorghum-soybean diet showed similar growth and feed efficiency when compared with
corn-soybean diet.
